OFFSHORE SAILING BETWEEN VALENCIA AND THE BALEARICS

THE PROPOSAL

The offshore sailing course between Valencia and the Balearic Islands will take place in an area of the Mediterranean that is very interesting for sailing as it is influenced by its location off the Gulf of Lion and the Mistral. And we will do it on an exceptional school-boat: a Southern Ocean 62, a 19-meter ketch designed for long sailing and living aboard.

The offshore sailing course between Valencia and the Balearic Islands will therefore be dedicated to offshore sailing and consequently with few stops. The objectives set can be redefined as needed during the course, taking into account the learning development of each student. In fact, should there be ideal conditions (weather and learning of the participants), the possibility of going as far as Sardinia should not be ruled out.

During the course we will see different aspects of navigation:

  • know and know how to use documentation useful for navigation, such as pilot books, nautical charts, Navionics and other tools.
  • know and be able to use weather applications and portals and their interpretation
  • inspect the concepts studied during the theory for the license, but applying them to real navigation in a pragmatic way
  • how to organize the galley, given that you will be entering ports very little and sailing 24 hours a day
  • how to manage water and fuel
  • how to plan shifts
  • maintain up-to-date logbook
  • safety on board and emergency management
  • learn as you go along to be autonomous in planning and conducting

The offshore sailing course between Valencia and the Balearic Islands is designed to gain experience and accumulate nautical miles required for the Swiss offshore license, practicing much of the activities that the Swiss Cruising Club requires to obtain the license. It is also useful for those who wish to obtain the RYA Yachtmaster.
